I focus on capturing and materialising intangible moments, in particular the movement of female athletes through space. These fleeting transfers of energy are deconstructed and processed through the digital realm.
Using photography, video, and stop motion, I analyse the movement of athletes to reveal its unique spatial form. These studies become the basis for abstract 3D models, created in Autodesk Maya and brought into the physical world through 3D printing. The resulting monochrome sculptures have been displayed on mirrored surfaces in the degree show. The pieces have an alien appearance, their plastic surface shiny and smooth, their form organic yet distinctly unfamiliar.
The works featured in my degree show exhibition display the movements of a gymnast, cheerleader and pole vaulter – athletes who I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with.
