My practice focuses on escapism to form distance from reality, rooted in my connection to home and emotional retreat while navigating cultural transition. Moving from Hong Kong to the UK has exposed me to new cultural environments while distancing me from my comfort zone. This shift has prompted me to reconstruct personal spaces that offer protection and cultural connection.

Two large-scale lantern installations serve as architectural metaphors for the transition between states of belonging. The enclosed, wearable lantern symbolises my current life in the UK, while the other represents my home in Hong Kong, which is stable yet now less accessible. Both are made with light-transmissive paper, painted with UV resin to form glossy, translucent strokes.

I interact with the lanterns through slow, ritualistic movements that symbolise my three-year journey of cultural transition in the video. Playful lighting and subtly humorous motion are used to provoke curiosity and reflection. The performance invites the audience to witness the quiet intimacy between me and the spaces I have built.

Merging traditional Chinese painting with contemporary materials and lighting to construct delicate installations that explore transparency and materiality. UV resin, Chinese calligraphy paper and sheer fabric interact with light to produce a virtual, luminous effect. This interplay between physical craft and digital aesthetics allows reflection on cultural memory while evoking a shift between reality and the virtual.
