Jessica selected glass as a medium due to its history between the church and stained glass – she doesn’t take a traditional approach, instead she prints a thin layer of glass paint on the surface and etches into it. The process of removing the paint illustrates that our memories consist of gaps and missing information. The absence of paint is a metaphor for the absence of information.
“Remember not the Former Things” is a collection of poems written by Jessica Jackman exploring a number of themes surrounding the existential dread paired with imagery that she associates with nostalgia.
Jessica explores how memories of our childhood are distorted over time – she invites the viewer to reflect on their own childhood and confront their feelings towards the future.
