Emilia’s practice questions the sites of her self. Through acts of intuitive making and drawing Emilia attempts to physicalise the voids and non-spaces inside of her body.

Emilia’s practice explores the physical manifestations of invisible internal spaces of the body and their uncanniness when represented through artworks.  Through acts of intuitive making and drawing to create subtle visceral forms, Emilia’s practice seeks to locate and understand the true form of her self.

Our internal bodily spaces are integral to the formation of the self, yet they remain invisible and unknown, inaccessible to our direct perception. Emilia’s investigation of a range of materials like hair, latex or Pears soap attempt to externalise her internal self, with the hopes of discovering the unknown and expose the fragility and fluidity of bodily boundaries.

In The Studio

Staying playful and curious in the studio is very important in Emilia’s practice. She considers the intuitive curation and assemblages of objects in her studio to be an extension of her self and a response to the fundamental and existential questions she asks within her practice.
