mobula is a remotely operated vehicle that is used to conduct coral reef surveying. By following standard surveying protocols, specifically the line intercept transect technique, this allows data to be collected quickly and standardises the information sent to external organisations.
By doing so, organisations can utilize their resources elsewhere and move towards upscaling. It is designed to be easy for anyone to understand, especially users from local communities who are not necessarily scientists.



mobula can be steered with a remote controller that connects to the surface connection buoy via radio frequency. This buoy is tethered to the vehicle for a reliable connection underwater.
This prototype was manufactured to test out the navigation and user interactions. It was programmed in Arduino, with a simple interface to primarily explore the intuitiveness of the controller.
