“Earththreads – The Living Thread’

INTRODUCTION
My project is centred around the exploration of mycelium, which is a root-like fungus that has been grown from barleycorn. Through extensive experimentation, and many petri dishes later, I have managed to grow a sustainable and biodegradable material that I have knitted and bonded throughout my project process. What makes me so excited about this project is its longevity, with endless opportunities to grow mycelium from not only barleycorn, but other potential protein- based sources. As a textile designer it was fascinating to be able to investigate “how many different ways can I embed mycelium barleycorn into a material?”
