Rooted in photography, my practice explores themes around forgotten landscapes and the surreal. With a focus on analogue processes, I have aimed to capture a sense of place that feels authentic to the UK, photographing ‘mundane’ spaces and deadpan imagery that probe our perceptions of what makes a place interesting. I try to capture liminal spaces at the edge of industry; evidence of what has both endured and deteriorated. The process has enabled me to explore themes through analogue photography and darkroom printing, reinforcing ideas surrounding photographs as fine art objects.

Inspired by the work of Richard Mosse, I became fascinated with colour infrared film. Because colour infrared film is no longer readily available, I turned to the trichrome technique to make my full colour images on black and white infrared sensitive film. This itself felt like adding another boundary or territory to the work, forcing me to slow down, to change filters, and to be more intentional with the photos that I made. This process yielded similar results to those of Mosse, with landscapes of pinks and reds that feel surreal and dreamlike, contrasting with the liminal spaces and industrial motifs that run throughout the work. I am displaying a triptych of these infrared images on lightboxes to further illuminate the scenes.
