Connections
Connections is an interiors collection designed for a nature-based mobile social prescription hub, that promotes and prescribes group outdoor activities. It aims to help individuals build connections with others and the natural environment. Rooted in the NHS’s holistic and personalised healthcare model, known as social prescribing, the scheme supports those facing everyday stresses and anxieties by connecting them to local activities that improve emotional and social wellbeing (NHS England, no date).

Inspiration
My visual and design research has been informed by the Stress Reduction Theory, which suggests that natural elements such as ‘vegetation and water inspire positive emotions and reduce negative thoughts’ (Mughal et al., 2022, pp. 5 – 6). This theory has influenced my visual references, as I aim to create a space that is both welcoming and calming. Therefore, movement and fluidity are central themes in my designs, echoing the gentle therapeutic presence of nature.
Colour and Processes
My colour palette has been thoughtfully developed to reflect natural surroundings and the practical needs of the space. The hub is designed to feel comforting and approachable, encouraging users to discuss their stresses and worries. A calming foundation of neutral tones is used with subtle pops of colour to add warmth and invite connection.
I have used digital techniques to create prints, weaves, embroidery, and laser-cut outcomes. These contribute to creating a more welcoming and emotionally engaging space compared to a traditional healthcare setting. Soft, tactile materials such as felt offer sound-dampening qualities and privacy, while translucent yarn elements introduce gentle movement and let natural light filter through, softening the harsh interior of the mobile hub.
