As a designer and ocean enthusiast, I am exploring how my multi media design skills can transfer into designing and enhancing systems for ocean protection and restoration.

Out of Sight

My project delves into the issue of bottom trawling, and the destruction of the world’s biggest ecosystem – the ocean. I look into the possibility of showcasing creatures of the deep into anti-trawling boulders, and restorative projects to inspire and teach others about the wonders that exist at our depths, and promote action before it’s too late.

Using waste oyster shells to create a calcium rich concrete, and textural designs inspired by their shells I have looked at how I can increase the potential for biological attachment in my prototypes, while incorporating imagery of deep sea creatures to not just enhance the restoration process, but also create dive and snorkel sights.
