About My Practice

Acetate, Holographic PVC Film, Jump Rings, Fishing Wire and Light Projection

The art practice explores light, shadow, reflections, space, and minimal abstract forms to create immersive environments that invite quiet contemplation.

Inspired by the shimmering movement of waves, the artwork utilises tiles made from transparent acetate and blue-toned holographic PVC film. These materials were chosen for their interaction with light and the reflections they cast across the surfaces. The tiles are in an undulating arrangement reminiscent of waves breaking ashore. Connected by jump rings that allow gentle, wave-like movement in response to air currents and surrounding movement.

Suspended by fishing wire, the delicate tiles appear to float, emphasising their fragile appearance. This suspension cultivates an atmosphere of stillness, encouraging viewers to move deliberately and become aware of their presence and the surrounding space.

Audience interaction is integral, as their movement beneath and around the sculpture alters the light, shadows, and reflections. They constantly change based on the viewer’s distance, angle, and position in relation to the artwork, making every experience distinct and personal. Through this engagement, viewers encounter a sensation similar to being submerged underwater. A timed lighting sequence alternates between light and darkness, creating a rhythmic atmosphere that centres on the viewer’s perception.

The installation highlights stillness and perception, inviting audiences to pause and engage with intangible everyday elements such as light and space. Amidst the constant noise and immediacy of modern life, it offers a contemplative space that appreciates nuance, patience, and attentiveness.
